Hot weather is here, and people are taking advantage of it. Hiking, swimming, and other outdoor sports can be a lot of fun, but they can also cause a lot of sweating. When your feet sweat it can create the perfect environment for bacteria or a fungus to grow and thrive. This can cause your feet to have an unpleasant odor. Don’t worry though, there are several things you can do for smelly feet.

How to Prevent Foot Odor

Damp feet are the number one culprit of foot odor since odor-producing bacteria love moist conditions. Try these tips to prevent your feet from getting excessively sweaty:

  • Wear shoes and socks that don’t constrict airflow
  • Put powder in your socks or shoes to absorb excess moisture
  • Wash your feet with antibacterial soap
  • Use antiperspirant spray to help keep feet dry.

Treatments for Foot Odor

There are many remedies you can do at home to cure foot odor. One idea is to steep tea with two black tea bags and then soak your feet in the water for 15-30 minutes daily. Soaking your feet in apple cider vinegar can help as well. It can help kill bacteria and neutralize the odor.  If the problem continues, it’s always best to see a foot specialist. They can prescribe ointments and oral medications that can help.

If you’re having any problems with foot odor you can count on the foot doctors at Foot & Ankle Specialists, PC to provide fast relief for your feet using a full range of both conservative and surgical therapies.
