Protect Your Feet at the Beach with these Tips

Foot & Ankle Specialists, PC Posted on August 2, 2022 by monpodOctober 4, 2022

Summer is in full effect. One of the most fun things you can do is go to the beach. The cool ocean is a great way to beat the heat, but there are some things you should be aware of to avoid injuries to your feet. Let’s take a look at some simple ways you can protect your feet to have the best summer possible.

Keeping your feet protected while you are on your beach is the best way to ensure you have a great time. Before you go however, it’s a good idea to take a moment and make sure your feet are properly protected and cared for. Try these 3 tips:

  1. USE SUNSCREEN: Everyone always remembers to apply sunscreen to the rest of their body but forget about their feet. According to a survey by skincare brand Nivea, 29% of sun seekers neglect to rub sun cream into their toes, while 46% leave the tops of their feet unprotected and 57% their soles. However, the skin on your feet is just as susceptible to harmful U.V. rays as the rest of your body. Using sunscreen can lower your chances of getting skin cancer.
  2. WEAR SHOES: Many people go to the beach barefoot. Unfortunately, that can be more dangerous than you think. Many foreign objects in the sand could harm your feet. Pieces of shells, jagged rocks, and even broken glass might be in the sand and could pierce your skin. Wear a pair of properly fitting shoes to avoid cuts and wounds.
  3. CHECK YOUR FEET WHEN YOU LEAVE: At the end of the day, take a few moments to wash your feet. Use soap and water and don’t forget to dry your feet thoroughly. Try to notice any cuts, contusions, or damaged toenails.

You can count on the Foot & Ankle Specialists, PC foot doctors, to care for your feet using a full range of conservative and surgical therapies.
