Women’s Foot Health Concerns
Both men and women can suffer from a variety of foot issues. Women, however, are prone to specific issues unique to them. Now is a good time to look at the most common issues women have with their feet and what can be done about them.
High Heels
High heels may be popular with some women. While they can be considered fashionable, they also contribute to a host of health issues. A bad back, unnatural gait, stretched calves, and other problems, have all been traced back to wearing high heels. There are a few things you can do to minimize these issues. The first is to simply limit the amount of time you spend in high heels. Try to keep it under three hours. If you do wear them, keep the heel height under two inches and be sure that it is sufficiently wide to offer proper balance.
Bunions
Bunions tend to be more common with women than they are with men because of improper shoe choices like high heels, constrictive footwear shape, and unsupportive flats. Bunions are bumps on the outside of the big toe joint. They can often be painful and sensitive to the touch. Wearing shoes with ample room and plenty of cushioning can help. Sometimes, surgery is a treatment option.
These are two issues women commonly experience with their feet, but there are others as well. It’s always best to consult a podiatrist if you’re having any problems with your feet.
