Keep Your Feet Safe for National Safety Month
June is National Safety Month and now that the warm weather is here people are getting outside and enjoying the sun. With that comes a lot of wear and tear on your feet, so protecting the health of your feet needs to be a top priority. Follow these tips to keep your feet safe this month and for the rest of the summer.
Wear Proper Shoes
Make sure your toes have plenty of wiggle room inside your shoes. Choose a shoe that fits the shape of your foot. Proper arch support is vital to protect the muscles in your feet.
Put Sunscreen on Your Feet
Everyone makes sure to apply sunscreen to their face, arms, and body, but often forgotten are the feet. Skin cancer can develop on your feet so it’s important to apply it generously and frequently to all exposed skin.
Wear Socks
Socks provide cushioning for the feet. They can also protect your feet from minor abrasions that introduce bacteria and fungi.
Wear Flip-Flops at the Pool
It’s tempting to go barefoot at the pool, but a good pair of sandals or flip-flops can protect your feet from picking up any bacteria that love to hide in damp places. You can also easily pick up a toenail fungal infection or athlete’s foot.
